RETURN TO GRACE ROAD

By Brian Sanderson,

Yesterday I had a trip to Grace Road Leicester to see a fifty over match between Leicester Seconds and Warwick. Myself and Brian Workman did not arrive for the start of the Warwick innings because of traffic problems in Leeds and a  small detour to getting to the ground. The last time I visited the ground was ten years ago and Brian visited last over  thirty years ago.

After twelve overs Warwick were 78 for 3 so a quick start but losing wickets which carried on most of their innings. The ground was about thirty people but near us was Peter Mc Kay father, photograph above.
We first saw Peter last year at Nottingham when he was playing for Warwark first team. Today he was dropped off a easy catch by Leicester captain Wells. He went on to score 75 in 75 balls with ten fours with some good shots. This was Warwick top score and they finished on 259 all out.

At this stage we left the ground but looking at totalcricket scorer Ebon Everett Kurtz went on to score 107 before been caught by Mc Kay.Leicester won the match with eight overs and one ball to spare. It was good to visit the ground again and  be able to speak to a father of one of the players.
