HARROGATE HOME OF WOMENS CRICKET

By Brian Sanderson,

On a quite cricket Friday, I decided to go to Harrogate to see Yorkshire Girls U17  against Cheshire U 17.

The weather was excellent with a cooling breeze and a good collection of PCW. to enjoy the company and sunshine.Yorkshire had lost their last match to Lancashire by ten wickets so in the huddle they must have encouraged each of them to win this match. Whilst  yesterday Cheshire had beaten Durham  by forty runs.

After the minute silence for the deaths in Tunisia, Yorkshire batted first and established a good opening stand.with Yvonne Graves and Hannah Poulter putting on 63 runs. The Cheshire bowling was very gentle and after 29 overs Yorkshire were 131 for 3. The top scorer was Teresa Graves, the twin of Yvonne, who scored 54 before being stumped  having a swing at a ball and missing it.

The number four bat  was Maddie Walsh , who had played for Yorkshire first team at Headingley a few weeks ago.She was born in Golcar so she had plenty of supporters but today she only scored 10. Yorkshire achieved  235 for 8 after 45 overs.

After the break Cheshire main batter was Ellie Mason who had scored 111 not out yesterday. However today she was caught by the wicket keeper of Rebecca Newark for a low score.Soon the Cheshire innings collapsed to 63 all out.  At one stage Maddie Wilson had taken two wickets in two balls but had to come off as she had bowled her maximum overs.

Good victory for the girls after the disappointment of losing to Lancashire.
