RAIN STOPPED PLAY
By Brian Sanderson
Because of the weather forecast I decided to stop local. The match I choose was a Joe Lumb match between Bradford and Barnsley at Farsley. The sun was shining as Barnsley during their innings.
Wootten decided to take on a weak Yorkshire attack by scoring 46 out of 53 before he was a caught. In the next thirty one runs Barnsley lost two more wickets. It was left to Naylor and Cherry to put a good partnership together. Cherry was the next highest scorer with 45.Adam Frost, captain, bowled steady left arm medium bowling to pick up 3 for 44.
The two spinners also bowled well. Sam Gattenby figures were 9-2-16-2 and bowled off spin. While leg spin bowler Archie Scott took three wickets but proven more expensive as the later batsmen decided to take him on.
Barnsley finished on 191 which was a excellent bowling and fielding by the Bradford youngsters.During the interval I took the opportunity to look at some photograph of Farsley most well known Yorkshire and England player. Raymond Illingworth.
After the break the dark clouds gathered and the expected rain arrived after four overs of the Bradford innings. I hope all the lads enjoy their cricketing career as much as I did also I hope some of them going on to a higher level.
