Another trip round local cricket grounds so it must be Saturday. After the heavy rain over night , the sun was out and my first photograph, above of Clariant Sports Ground , Calverley Lane, looked excellent. This match was between Farsley Thirds and Crompark in the Dales Council Division B
The ground is just off the Leeds Ring Road near Horsforth and was known as the Sandoz before it became
the Clarient factory. The site was sold to Harrow Estates and there will be about 400-500 houses.
Moving on towards Bradford we went to Thornbury ground were their seconds were playing Cookeridge Thirds. Abdul Halim, the Thornbury batsman, this season had average of 99.67 and today he retired on 100 which will increase his average again. The team scored 376 for 9 and then bowled Cookridge for 84
Moving on about a mile we called in Karmand Community Centre which is near the centre of Bradford. The two teams playing were Bradford Moor and Shipley Providence in the A Division of the Dales Council.Bradford Moor scored 209 and bowled Shipley Providence out for 93.
Moving on past Odsal we went to Buttershaw St. Pauls Seconds , who are in Yorkshire Central League ,
and playing Wrenthorpe Seconds who scored 220 for 8 and then bowled out the home side for 111.
Moving on Bankfoot who are the Bradford League and the ground is next to Odsel Rugby League ground.I have played here on numerous occasions but it was Ron Deaton first visit.There seconds were playing Baildon seconds Baildon scored 219 for 9 and bowled the home side out for 70.
The next ground was behind the Richard Dunn Stadium and is called Muff Field.Their seconds were playing Yorkshire LPS seconds in the Group D of the Bradford Mutual Sunday Cricket League. There was a match between Amarmilan and Yorkshire LPS were there were 22 Patels playing.
Moving on past Park Avenue cricket ground we went to Girlington. The above sight meets you as I climbed over a wall. How can you beat that for a ground next to an old church. The match was Girlington Seconds against Bradford Gymkhara seconds. A beautiful ground apart from the changing rooms.
Across the road is another church and a bit younger. Crossing the road we went to Park Avenue ground were Omars were playing Girlington.
The Omars side we eager to have their photograph taken.With the resignation of Heaton CC , the club was returned to the top flight. however up today they had only won two matches.
Another six hours of travelling round and again very enjoyable.

The ground at Horsforth was originally owned by Wilson and Mathieson who were ironfounders based at the Armley Bridge Works off Cananl Road. The groundsman was Mostyn (Taffy) Tucker who worked there during the 1960s and 70s to my knowledge.The bowling green was reputed to be the best in the area.
