It was great to wake up to sunshine and not to worry about the forecast. Also it was great to see Brian Workman again after his spell of missing cricket and only to travel ten minutes to Trent College.I had visited last year for a short time but today the match was a fifty over match between Nottingham Seconds and Worcestershire Seconds. The wicket is pitch in a bowl with the school as a back drop.
Worcester won the toss against a weaken Nottingham attack. One of the opening bowlers was Billy Root with his off-spin.For the first twenty-five overs Nottingham must have been very pleased to keep Worcester to 104 for 3.Then Ross Andrew Whiteley came in to bat, he is 26 years old and was born in Sheffield can hit the ball a long distance.
His partner at the other end was George Harry Rhodes who is Stephen Rhodes son. Stephen played for Yorkshire , Worcester and England and is now in charge of cricket at Worcester. The two batsmen put on a stand of 201 in 19.3 overs. Whiteley hit 9 sixes and 13 fours in his total of 135 and that was in 68 balls.
Great entertainment for the crowd but a Nottingham bowler resorted to throwing his hat on the floor after
been smash all over the ground. After the end of Whiteley innings the cricket went back to normal and Worcester finished on 341 for 8. Still a large total but it could have been a lot worse if Whiteley had stopped in the full inning.
After lunch Nottingham was soon 28 for 4 after eleven overs and Billy Root had been bowled for one.. This must be his only low score in the last two months.At this stage the match was over and Nottingham struggled to 220 for 8 in the fifty overs.
I would recommend cricket watchers to go to see cricket at Trent College and enjoy the surroundings. There is usually only one match a season so put it in your calendar for next year.
