The two national ko competitions for club sides have now reached the quarter final stage. In the Davidstow Village Cup the ties are as follows
Bronwydd (South Wales CA Div 2) v Pelsall (Birmingham and District Div 3)
Hawk Green (Derbyshire and Cheshire Div 1) v Woodhouse Grange (York Senior Premier Div)
Foxton ( Cambs and Hunts Div 1)v Sibton Park (Kent Div 2)
Roche (Cornwall Div 1) v Goatacre (West of England Prem (Div 2)
Ties to be played Sunday July 26th
In the National KO Cup the ties are as follows
Northern v Kimberley Institute
Chester le Street v Bowdon
Blackheath v Swardeston
Roffey v Bath
Matches to be played Sunday 9th August
Last Saturday I went to visit my old club Cockerton currently top of the Darlington and District League Division B who were taking on Spennymoor, How times change for in the era when I played this would have been a match between two of the top teams in Division A. The ground looked in excellent condition although the pavilion (above)) now has to be vandal proof but the interior is much improved and has an excellent display of press cuttings and photographs of which this has to be the gem.
The scorer, Thomas W Watson was President of the club when I first joined in the late 60s and when it came to his casting vote for captaincy of the second XI I can still remember him saying 'Who's Winn, never heard of him'. I didn't get the job.
