WHAT COULD BE BETTER ?
By Brian Sanderson,
On a sunny Friday I set off with family and my sister to visit St. Peters School in York which was founded in 627AD.Every year there is five days of cricket at the school were Yorkshire U19 play a number of teams in a fifty over matches. Monday they played Lincolnshire CCC Academy,Tuesday Northumberland Development squad.,Wednesday Lancashire Cricket Board, Thursday M.C.C and tod ay Durham Academy.
When we arrived Tony Hutton had taken a team photograph but he did not know their names.Yorkshire were batting and I recognised Callum Goldthorpe who I saw on Saturday playing for Pudsey St. Lawerence. There were no names on the Durham sheet in the programme.Unlike most 50 over matches the lunch is taken at 1.00P.M. and tea at 4.00P.M..Goldtorpe batted very well and scored a hundred.
At lunch time my sister and myself walked down to Clifton village and had a sandwich in the local shop and Rhumbarb tea and very nice it was. Coming back to the match Yorkshire were still batting and looking to reach a big score. There were a number of sixes and one dented a new car,s bonnet. After fifty over Yorkshire had scored 254,
We watched the afternoon session from under a tree to escape the strong sun.Durham soon lost a wicket but looked on to make a match of it as we left at tea they had scored 60 for 1 in fifteen overs.
I like visiting the school to see excellent cricket in great surroudings.Worth a visit.
