BRILLANT CENTURY MAKES THE DAY

By Brian Sanderson,

One of the things I like going to is a out ground of another county other than Yorkshire. Today match was at Lutterworth were Leicester Seconds were playing Worcestershire. There had been a one day at Grace Road were Leicester won by eight wickets.  There were no scorecards however the sides were put a piece of paper and pinned outside the pavilion.
During the weekend Damian D,Oliveira had deid and the players wore black arm bands. The team was run by Kevin Sharpe ex Yorkshire player and coach so it was pleasing to see him again.
The match should have started at 11 o,clock however the wicket was damp due to rain last night. It seems the groundsman had not put the covers on the wicket. The weather was warm so we pitched our chairs in the shade of a concker nut tree which caused used us to be bombard with small conckers.Worcestershire batted first as the church clock struck twelve. They soon lost wickets and it was up to Gareth Andrews  to score the majority of the runs. The Worcester website says he uses a Mongoose 2.12 bat.
By lunch time they had lost three wickets but after lunch Asif Sheikh proven to be to good for the batsmen and Worcester were bowled out for 160.This left Leiceter to bat for another before tea. One of their openers was Angus Robson who is the brother of the current England opener eventhough he was born in Sydney .However he was soon out which brought in Dan Redfern who had been released by Derbyshire.I remember seeing him with Gary Ballance winning a second team match in 2007.He made his first class debut when he was 16 years old and he is now 24. He soon started to attack the bowling and dominated the scoring by tea he was 58.
As shown by the photograph he had scored 58 out of 69 runs. After tea he carried on  scoreing  at will showing that he was above this level of cricket. We stayed on till he scored his century when he hit a boundary which was stopped by Brian Workman shoe. A great innings which made the trip worth while.
