BIRTHDAY AT HEADINGLEY DUST BOWL

By Brian Sanderson,

This was my thirteen consequent day watching cricket and it was my birthday.Reading the Daily Telegraph Paul Collingwood had expressed concern with the Headingley pitch.Every four inches there is a hole which has caused the pitch to turn in to dust bowl. While I was waiting for some autographs Jack Berkinshaw, pitch inspector, was talking to the groundsman.

So sitting down ,Yorkshire had to take some quick wickets to help to win the match.Scott Bortwick was soon out lbw to Brook. Then it took another one and half hours to get another with Lyth getting his second wicket. Lunch time Durham were 163 for 3.

After lunch William Roberts had packed up his book stall and people started going home.Still Yorkshire had to take quick wickets and stop Durham scoreing.First over after lunch another wicket fell and hopes rised of a Yorkshire victory. However by tea Yorkshire had taken another two wickets and Durham were 261 for 6 with a lead of 66.The weather was hot and players took drinks but there was no sign of the wicket misbehaving apart from a few balls.

After tea more people were leaving the ground with a propect of a draw.Still Yorkshire wanted quick wickets but this did not happen. In the end Aaron Finch came on to bowl his gentle spin bowling on his last Championship match for Yorkshire.
After tea  Colonel  Mustard held the Durham side together with a 57 not out and forcing a draw. Long before the end Yorkshire supporters were talking about the next match at Scarborough. However there is still two 20/20,s next week first.Friday I will be selling books at the match on Friday.
