ONE CRICKET LEAGUE PLAYING THROUGH THE TOUR DE FRANCE
By Brian Sanderson,
It stated on Eurosport this morning that all cricket leagues in Yorkshire had been cancelled because of the Tour de France, this was not true as the Bradford League played. As Bob Procter was going to East Bierley I decided to go to the most scenic ground in the League. East Bierley were playing Pudsey St, Lawerence.I n the programme it told us that Pudsey had won this match last year. There was a good crowd as shown on the photograph. The first person I met was Brian Cobb who had not seen for a number of weeks so it was good to met him again.
East Bierley had won the toss and decided to bat.
As you can see from the above photograh there is a great view from the ground. One of the openers was Gavin Hamilton ex Yorkshire, Durham and England . Even at the age of 39 still played some good strokes. The openers put on stand of 90 in 22.4 overs so it was proven to be a strong platform for the home side. Hamilton was second out for 56 which included 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Soon Bierley were 149 for 7 with still 10 overs to go which required them to build a patnership. This was done with Gill and Walsh putting on 48 runs which helped to bring the total up to 195. I thought Pudsey let Bierley off the hook but should still win.Little do I now.
Pudsey were soon 51 fo r 4 in 17 overs due mainly to the two spinners Jarvis and Ahmed. Bierley dropped two catches and Irshad bowled 7 no-balls and three of them got wickets. Is this a record ?
It was left to Mardsen and Lamb to rescue Pudsey however this was not possible and they were bowled out for 163 with Ahmed ,above ,taking 4 for 33. A surprise victory for me that East Bierley won but that is why you watch sport.
What good be better on sunny Saturday in July.
