WORLD RECORD ?
By Brian Sanderson,
A very interesting day started at Headingley with the sun shining.. I went down to obtain some autographs and Hampshire were batting in the nets. The next thing that happen was a ball hitting one of the spectators at the back row of the North Stand from the nets. A man had been hit on the head causing a copious amount of blood. At the same time Tim Bresnan came off after a game of football with a cut head caused by a crash of heads.
Back to the cricket Hampshire were 37 for 4 trying to bat the day out. However Rashid got the night watchman after thirty-five minutes .Then Bresnan got Ervine wicket and at lunch Hampshire were 114 for 6.
Mc Manus, the young wicket keeper, batted very well for 28 and put on a stand of 56 with Smith. Then there was two wickets in two balls by Rashid. The last wicket fell to Patterson with the score on 143. So Yorkshire won by 305 runs.
Moving on to Weetwood ,where there was two matches been played. The first was Leeds and Bradford University against Loughborough in the second day. Yesterday Loughborough had scored 296 in 84.3 overs and now Leeds and Bradford were batting. and were 255 for 7 so producing a thrilling finish.
However the second match at Weetwood was Leeds University Ladies against Loughborough who were batting.Tony Hutton had brought the news that there was a big score about to be made off fifty overs. When we arrived we found Loughborough had scored 565 for 4 off 50 overs with three centurions. As shown by the above photogragh. The score must be a record.
Back to the mens match by this time Leeds had lost another two wickets and the score was 272 still needing 25 to win. After a few huge hits by Harewood, who was born in America, passed Loughborough total to win the match. This was met by a huge roar from the players and tea was taken.
At this stage I went home, pleased I had come up to Weetwood to see both matches.
