WELCOME BACK JOHNY
By Brian Sanderson,
A busy morning today of the first day of the Yorkshire against Hampshire match at Headingley. Woke up late but arrived at the Long Room by 9.35.Today was Heritage Day and myself together with Richard Griffiths shown some Yorkshire and Hampshire memorabilia until after lunch.
Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat which pleased the Yorkshire supporters who wish to see the English tourist back to their first Championship match. However soon Alex Lees was L.B.W. to Tomlinson without playing a shot. Before lunch Pudjara was out caught at slip again off Tomlinson. At lunch Yorkshire were 83 for 2 .Honours even.
During lunch we had to chance to speak to a number of supporters about their memoirs of county matches and discuss cricket memorabilia. When I return back after a sandwich Yorkshire had lost another two wickets.. Enter Johny Bairstow after his sunny trips to the West Indies and wet Ireland. Bairstow showed his attacking qualities by hitting 102 runs including 11 fours and three 6,s.However he could have been caught by Carburry diving to his right but he dropped the catch which could be the vital point of the match.
After tea Jack Leaning reached 77 not out at the close together with Tim Bresnan to bring Yorkshire score to 333 for 7. So Yorkshire are in front with three wickets to fall and fourteen over to get some more bonus points.
Hoping for a quieter day tomorrow.
