Matthew sets the House on fire.

posted by John Winn

The four quarter final matches in the National Village Cup were all completed  yesterday after the previous Sunday's washout. The winners were Woodhouse Grange, Pelsall, Goatacre and Foxton and the semi final draw is (ties to be played on August 9th)

Pelsall (Staffs) v Woodhouse Grange (Yorks)

Foxton (Cambs) v Goatacre (Wilts)

Perhaps the most remarkable of yesterday's games was that between Goatacre and their Cornish opponents Roche Old Boys. Goatacre batted first and at one point were 23 for 5 which improved to 130 for 9, still not a score likely to scare Roche. Enter Matthew House, who aided by Dan Wiseman at the other end added an unbeaten 101 for the last wicket. House's knock of 66 came off 23 balls and included 4 4s and 7 6s. That sort of partnership is likely to knock the stuffing out of any team and Roche were all out for 133 with appropriately House taking the last wicket. Bingo!

Full scores for the other three games are not yet on  the competition play cricket site and I am grateful to John Gawthrope, who saw the game at Woodhouse, for letting me know that Grange won by 95 runs. In Staffordshire the home team's 205 for 8 was too good for Bronwydd's 148 and after Foxton had hit up 225, Sibton, after being 4 for 3, were all out for 167.
