ADDINGHAM
By Brian Sanderson,
At this time of the season is a chance to go to some new grounds in the Yorkshire Junior Festival under 15. Today was Aire-Wharfe against North Yorkshire at Addingham. It is situated near the A65, 6 miles south-east of Skipton and five miles east of Ilkley. The area around the village is thought to have been populated from at least Bronze Age. The club itself was established about 1870.
The Festival consists of four groups of four covering Yorkshire clubs and playing a final on Friday at Copley.Yesterday AirWharfe had scored 232 for 6 and bowled Pontefract out for 205 at Fairburn. Whilst North Yorkshire scored 172 for 6 and bowled Wetherby out for 162.
As I arrived at the pavilion Peter Mann (or Motor Cycle Man )was having a cup of tea As he just lives in Burley. Airedale batted first and were soon in trouble. The lost wickets quickly on a damp wicket. By this time we were joined by Brian Senior who had arrived from Leeds by bus.So a chance to catch up on our recent trips out. The weather was cool with a cold wind which kept the rain off until three o,clock.
By this time Aire Wharfe had been bowled out for just over 100. Peter Mann did not want a quick finish as the Burley Fish Shop would not be open but Brian Senior wondered if tea would be ready.Whilst we left to go back to Leeds as a Wombwell Committee meeting is on tonight. Airewharfe play at Wetherby whilst North Yorkshire at Glasshoughton. I will be at Pudsey Congs to see Yorkshire U15 play Lancashire.
