DRIVING ROUND NORTH LEEDS

By Brian Sanderson

I made arrangement to pick up John Fuller who runs the Cricket Yorkshire website to visit some North Leeds grounds. On the way to St. Chads , we visited Rawdon and Horsforth. At both grounds the players were getting ready for the one o, clock start.

Just as the clock struck one we arrived at St. Chads who were playing Sicklinghall in the Wetherby League. Paul Berry who is the main man behind the club was there watching the home side batting. They scored 184 for 9 whilst Sicklinghall were bowled out for 133.

Going over the Otley Road we watched Headingley Bramhope playing St, Chads A side again in the Wetherby League. The home side scored 148 for 7whilst St. Chads were bowled for 100.

Driving about half a mile we arrived at the New Rover A  side playing Horsforth in Division one of the Second Teams in the Airedale wharfe League. The home side had struggled to have eleven players.

Moving on another half mile we arrived to see Adel playing Ben Rhydding in Division 1 of the Aire dalewharfe League. The home side scored 179 for 9 whilst  the away side were bowled out for 153.

The Adel third team were playing Crompark on the second pitch. They had bowled the away side out for 15 and Adel were on the way to score 18 for 3 to win the match.

Driving another half a mile we arrived at the Old Moderians ground who were playing Horsforth Old Park in the Third Division of the Airedalewharfe League

Now moving on to the Dales Council League were Cookeridge were playing Woodhouse. Woodhouse scored 239 for 7 whilst the home side were bowled out for 124.

Moving on to one of the smaller grounds at Meanwood. They play in the Wetherby League and were playing Thorner Mexborough. The home umpire was getting ready to play for England Rugby League side. The home side scored 106 for 2 whilst the away side had been bowled out for 143. John voted the tea as the best this season.

We went on to The Carbbean ground who should have been playing East Ardsley but there was no play and the result is not on the League website so I will have to wait to find out what the result is.

The last ground was Pool who were playing Tong Park Esholt  in the Airedalewharfe dale League. There is great views of Otley Chevin in the background. The home side had scored 279 for 7 and then bowled the away side for 99. So this was the ninth ground we saw cricket on sunny Saturday afternoon. What could be better again with good company and cricket grounds.
