AREA FINAL OF NATWEST CLUB T20

By Brian Sanderson,

I decided to go to Undercliffe to see the above competition which is the next stage to the one that Pudsey Congs won at St. Lawerence a few weeks ago.It was due to start at 10.00 but there was a thirty minute delay due to a section of the pitch was damp after two days of rain. The weather was cloudy but it was forecast to keep dry and improve during the day.

PUDSEY  CONGS  V  WICKERSLEY ( SOUTH YORKSHIRE LEAGUE )

The Congs batted first  Calum Geldart scored  24 off 9 balls before he was out.The Wickersley bowling was steady after 15 overs the score was 102 for 6. So it was left to Joe Greaves , above,to score 39 not out and see the score to 138 for 9.The fielding was very good and thoughts were that is was just below a par score.

The Pudsey bowling was tight and no Wickersley batsmen scored more than 23 in a total of 116.The Pudsey captain had figures of 4-0-10-3. The crowd was resonable but few Pudsey supporters apart from Ralph Middlebrook who I sat with during the first innings. So Pudsey Congs went through to the final.

BOURNE  ( LINCOLNSHIRE LEAGUE ) V  TICKNALL ( DERBYSHIRE LEAGUE  )

Bourne is a market town and civil parish in South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire whilst Ticknall is  a small village in South Derbyshire. Ticknall batted first and lost a wicket first ball. Then two Derbyshire county players but on a total of 224 with Tom Wood scoring 147  which was helped by five 6,s in the last over. Whilst Paul Borrington scored 68 not out. This was always going to be to good for Bourne.

If it was not for Tom Dixon scoring 82 they would not have reached the total of 156.

FINAL  PUDSEY CONGS  V TICKNALL

Pudsey batted first  and soon lost two wickets for 8 and then Caleb Geldart, above , scored 80. This was in 49 balls and included 8 fours and 5 sixes. When he was out the total was 117 in the fourteenth over and the the score struggled to 165. The best bowler was S.Khan with figures of 4-0-21-2. There was a incident between Lindley and Woodburn were the the umpires had to step in to cool the situation down. Not good to see.

It would be up to the Pudsey bowlers to take early wickets. This happen when Ticknall were 18 for 3 and Wood was out for 0. Lindley, above ,opening the bowling and had figures of 4-1-16-2. It was left to Borrington to score 63 out of a total of 137 for 9.

This means Congs will be away at Chester -Le-Street on the 16 August.
