ANOTHER VICTORY FOR YORKSHIRE

By Brian Sanderson,

On a pleasant Monday morning it was good to walk up to the Stadium after the mileage I had traveled in the last week. Today was a fifty over match against Leicestershire and a chance to see the Dickie Bird,s  Players Balcony even though it was mainly covered by a black sheet which acted as a sight screen.

Leicester won the toss and put  Yorkshire in front of a very good crowd with part of The White Rose stand open. Yorkshire Yorkshire had a weaken side as Gale and Ballance were injured and Plunkett was in the Test Squad.

Lees hit five 4,s in 110 balls in his highest score of 75 in any kind of cricket since hitting 100 in the second Championship match of the season against Nottingham at Trent Bridge in late April. He  added 80 with Andrew Hodd for the first wicket ,49 for the second wicket with Glenn Maxwell and 69 for the third with Rhodes. When Lees was out at 198 for 4 in the thirty sixth over and the score of over 300 did not arrived. Yorkshire finished on  277 for 9 which disappointed the Yorkshire supporters.

At lunch time Dickie  opened the balcony but I went home for lunch. In the afternoon Leicester advanced  steadily through the first 30 overs reaching 147 for 2 with Robson the anchor  having reached a career best of 79 not out.

When he was out for 90 , it left Leicester to score 94 in the last ten overs with five wickets in hand. However pressure got the batting side and some good bowling by Yorkshire to kept  them to 246 all out. A excellent victory for Yorkshire and a good cricket match to watch back at Headingley.
