By Brian Sanderson,
Yesterday afternoon I drove a short distance to Weetwood were three Universities were playing 20/20. It should have been four but Newcastle decided not to come which put Leeds and Bradford into the final. When I arrived in the sunshine Bristol University were playing Durham in the only semi-final.Already there were the John and Tony sat on the grassy bank.
Durham had batted first and had scored 183 and Bristol finished on 142 as per photograph.It was a long way to come for one match of 20/20. Leeds and Bradford were practicing in the nets.The match finished at 2.45 and there was then a lunch interval so I went over to New Rover to see Leeds Beckett University play Leeds University.
The weather had become cloudy but we were able to see the end of Leeds Beckett innings who scored 161.Looking on twitter later I found that Leeds University bowler Beneckton had taken 6-18 in just over seven overs. I found out later also that Leeds University won the match
Bowler of the match Beneckton. |
Moving back to Weetwood to see the final between Leeds and Durham were it was back to Weetwood normal temperature ,cold and windy.Leeds batted first and Billy Root was soon batting and helped to put on a fifty partnership in 30 balls.He finished on 69 in the fifteenth over and is in excellent form this season.In the last five overs Mc Kendry and Harwood brought the score to 164 with a finish of two sixes.
It was a competitive total and Durham started well with Steel scoring 40 in 21 balls. When he was out the score was 3 for 56 in good time. However spinners Ellis-Grewal and Mc Kendry stopped the runs and collected 4 wickets between them. During the Durham innings we were joined by John Fuller of Cricket Yorkshire fame who took the chance to see some of the prettiest Yorkshire cricket ground photographs taken by Tony Hutton, now of Wisden fame.
Durham finished on 140 and Leeds and Bradford go on to the final at Oxford on the 15 June. Good Luck to them.
Two other interesting points about them web;
1- the photograph on the June fixture is ex Yorkshire patron Henry Fitzalan-Howard ,the 15th Duke of Norfolk.So Brian Workman owes me a pint when we next watch cricket together . Soon I hope.
2-The website has now had 99763 visits since it,s first started. Thank you for all the people who read it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we like putting topics on the site.

Loughborough and Oxford will join Leeds/B in the finals day at The Parks on June 15th having won the other two qualifying events in the competition taking place yesterday. Durham, despite their loss to Leeds/ Bradford yesterday will also be in Oxford by virtue of their run rate. The prize for the winners is a trip to India for the international final.
