Looking at the weather forecast on Saturday night ,I thought I would be house bound. Not to be on Saturday morning there had been just light rain so off to watch cricket. We decided to stay round North Leeds and visit some grounds I had not visited.
The first match was at Weetwood were the Academy were playing Driffield who were batting first. When I arrived Driffield were batting well and look on to a good score . They reached 296 for 8 while we were visiting other grounds.
Second match was at Meanwood were the A team were playing Scholes A in the Wetherby League . The ground is very small and a ball was lost in the trees while we were there. The scores were Meanwood 298 for 7 while Scholes scored 135 for 9.
Moving on to the Carbbean ground were the second team were playing Rodley A in the Central Yorkshire League. There are excellent views over Leeds City centre. A most unusual pavilion front.
Moving on a few miles to Roundhay Park were Leeds Sikh were playing Tong Park Esholt in the Dales Council League. On this ground Jack Appleyard X1would play charity matches in the 1940,s and 50,s which would attract big crowds and international cricketers.
Going back towards Headingley , we called into Woodhouse ground were Leeds Sikh A were playing Pudsey St. Lawrence B side in the Dales Council League. This ground was one of Mick Bourne favorite grounds.
The sixth ground was St. Chads a were playing Long Marston in the Wetherby League . The scores were St. Chads 190 for 9 and Long Marston 189 for 5 . A close match.
Over the road at Glen Road Headingley Bramhope B were play St. Chads B team. The scores were low scoring Headingley 93 and St. Chads 72.
Returning to Weetwood the Academy finished one run short and nine wickets down. Another close match when we were expecting to be watching television. British weather.
