Village Cup goes nationwide
posted by John Winn
Despite wet weather in some parts only one group final in the Village Cup was left uncompleted last Sunday, that between Ackworth and Houghton Main in the West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside group. That will now be played this Sunday. The full draw for the first national round is available at the cricketer.com and shows one other tie as being undecided. That is in the Central and North Lancs group between Burneside and Shireshead but Tuesday's edition of The Westmoreland Gazette reports that Burneside beat Shireshead by four wickets and they will play Egerton in the last 32.
Although this Round of 32 is described as being the first national round sensibly the draw is divided into four regional groups to reduce travelling. The four groups are Midlands, North, South East and South West. Even so there are some long journeys with Scotland's representative, Falkland faced with a nearly 500 mile round trip to North Yorkshire. Ynystone from South Wales are another club facing a long trip when they travel to Roche in Cornwall. What time will they get home?
