By Brian Sanderson,
There were three options this morning to watch cricket. The first was the Test Match, second Trent Bridge and third Darlington. We choose the third and hoped that the weather forecast was correct when it stated sunny but windy. The forecast was correct and when we arrived the first person I saw was Kevin Sharp, the ex Yorkshire player and Yorkshire batting coach. His job now was the Second Team coach for Worcestershire who were playing today Durham Seconds.
After the bacon sandwich, only £1,I noticed the houses been built on the old football ground. The show house gives a excellent view of the ground.Yesterday Worcestershire had scored 225 and Durham were 129 for 5. It had rained heavily over night and the wind had caused problems with the sight screen
It was good to see the North East professional cricket watchers. John Winn and Brian Senior arrived later.
Durham decided to attack the bowling with Bousfield and Carse putting on a stand of 52 in eleven overs. Brydon Alexander Carse ,born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, had taken 6 for 42 yesterday. Another South African coming into English cricket. Durham finished on 249 with a lead of 24. By lunchtime Worcester were 29 for 2.
Dinner time at Darlington is excellent with the cost of £3 you can fill your plate with slices of pork pies, ham ,paste and potatoes . When you have finished your plate ,you can eat strawberries and cream and the finish with a cup of tea. The dinner ,is one big reason to come to Darlington.
During the morning I had been given a book called Darlington Cricket Club from 1827 by Robert Hattersley.
It looks a excellent book but when I will have time to read it I do not know.
During the afternoon in the sunshine we were able to watch Alexei Nicolaas Kervezee score a century. He was born in Nambia and played for Netherlands.Another local born cricketer.Looking at total cricket scorer he was out for 127 while Alex Hepburn scored 112. He was born in Subiaco, West Australia aged 19.Another local cricketer.
Look forward tomorrow to going to another favorite ground Trent Bridge.Hope the sun shines and the wind has decreased.
Kervezee after his century. |
