SECOND DAY AT HEADINGLEY

By Brian Sanderson,

Waking up this morning the sun was  again shining and a pleasent walk to the ground. There I spoke to a cricket supporter from Surrey who used to play at York in the 1990,s. He wanted to know about the league structure in 2016 which is very complecated. So after thirty minutes we tried to work out what clubs will be playing in what divisions however it is only guess work at the moment as nothing has been published.

One of the interesting things about the University matches ,is to find out the background of the players. So here goes the Leeds and Bradford side.

Steven Frank Gregory Bullen played for Wilthire born in Watford.

Henry Lester Thompson played for Lancashire from the under 13,s.born in Preston.

William Thomas Root, brother of Joe,played for Yorkshire Nottingham, Worcestershire Leicestershire,Middlesesx Seconds, M.C.C. Young Cricketers born in Sheffield.

Logan Patrick Weston played for Cumberland ,born in Bradford.

George Frederick Buchan Scott played for Hertfordshire born in Hemel Hempstead.

Harry Philip Rouse  played for Somerset, Gloucester Seconds and Barnsley. Born in Sheffield.

Christopher Francis Wakefield played for Middlesex from under 14,s Born in Hammersmith.

Alexander Edward Lilley played for Yorkshire Seconds Born in Halifax.

Joe Sukhdev Edwin- Grewal played for Glamoprgan Seconds and Harrogate and Broad Oak. Born in Walthamstow.

Dougals Pratt played for Harrow School. Born is Unknown.

Back to the match .Yorkshire bowlers quickly started to get wickets with no batsmen getting more than 36 until Ellis- Grewel  decided to put bat to ball. He scored 42  before he was caught off a reverse sweep by Bresnan off Carver.Brooks was the main wicket taker with three. The University scored 202 0f 74 overs. Not the fastest scoring rate.

During the afternoon I had a talk with a South African gentleman who was visiting Leeds for the first time, He was very lucky with the weather.

Yorkshire batting was not good and they finished on 126 for 6 with Ellis-Grewal taking 3 for 46.Pyrah and Bresnan are batting so it could be a intersting day tomorrow. Yorkshire are 253 runs ahead with four wickets to fall.

The photograph at the start of he blog is of  Terrington which is another club is no longer in exsistence. The village is in East Yorkshire.
