Lots more talent in Yorkshire Academy pipeline

Taking a break from the Yorkshire 2nd XI game at Headingley it was off to the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond, while all Yorkshire followers basked in the joy of the amazing victory at Worcester yesterday.

This was a game between the Yorkshire Academy and the Durham Academy at the pleasant and well appointed ground of Richmondshire CC not far from the town centre. The view from the pavilion takes in the famous castle as well as a church tower.

Yorkshire carried on where the left off on Saturday, even without that day's century maker Ben Ainsley. A very young looking side opened with Harry Brook and Danish Hussain who put on an excellent century partnership for the first wicket. They were in no trouble at all against Durham's opening pace men and then took on a varied spin attack with confidence. Brook scored his second academy half century of the season and Hussain also reached fifty soon afterwards.

Once the partnership was broken wickets began to fall with some regularity and number three Yassir Imtiaz did not stay long. So from 108-1, the score slumped to 119-3. Another very young player Sam Wigglesworth together with Nathan Firn helped rectify the situation and took the score to 165-4. Moin Ashraf returning after yet another injury sustained in Australia last winter hit a few lusty blows, but the Durham spinners kept taking wickets and in the end Yorkshire did well to finish their innings on 214-9 in fifty overs. Jonathon Reed from Scarborough has taken over as the Academy wicket keeper from Barney Gibson who recently announced his retirement.

Durham had made a steady start and were 30-0 when it was time to leave. No publicity seems to be the rule so far for the Academy and no final score for this match, or last Saturday's game at Sheriff Hutton Bridge, has appeared either on the county website or on the county twitter site. However we understand that they beat Sheriff Hutton by about sixty runs. Our Ouseburn correspondent hopes to be at Richmond tomorrow for the second match between these two teams, so we hope he will be able find out how today finished.
