Uncapped Yorkshire international player

The photograph above is Eddie Leadbbeater taken at Northamptonon the 24 June 1955.he was born in Huddersfield on the 15th of August 1927. He  was a leg break bowler who had the rare distinction of playing two Test matches but not getting capped by Yorkshire. He played 81 matches for the county from 1949 to 1956 before moving to Warwickshire were he played another 27 matches. He broke numerous league records taking 1712 wickets in his league career.

In this match Yorkshire were missing Trueman, Appleyard, Wardle and Cowan so opening the bowling with Van Geloven and Close. It was a perfect batting wicket but Northants could only make 231 with Close taking five wickets. The top scorer was Leonard Livingston who was born in Sydney who played
from 1950 to 1957 for the county.


Yorkshire first innings owned a lot to Billy Sutcliffe who opened the innings with Hutton. He scored 86 whilst the next top scorer was Vic Wilson with 27. George Tribe the Australian off spinner took six wickets for seventy three .He played first class cricket from 1945 to 1959. In the away fixture against Yorkshire in 1955 he took nine wickets for forty five.

In the Northants second innings they struggled against the  bowling of Close and Illingworth who took seven wickets between them. The top run scorer was ex Yorkshire opening bat Dennis Brookes who was born in Kippax near Leeds .He played 492 matches for the county and had one test match in the West Indies in 1947/48. The total was  145.

Hutton and Sutcliffe put on a opening stand of 107 which enabled Yorkshire to win by six wickets.

In this year Yorkshire finished second to Surrey  with Northants finishing seventh.
