Tragic death

By Brian Sanderson

i was looking through Cricket Statistician journal about a list of
cricketers who died due to accidents. one of these was Kenneth
Davidson.

A talented right hand bat ,he was born on Christmas Eve 1905.
his first County appearance as amateur was at Bramall Lane
in mid July against Middlesex were he shared a century stand
with Leyland.

He chose to turn professional for the summer of 1934.He left
a strong impression with 1241  runs at 34.47.In his first
appearance at Lords he struck a unbeaten century. His second
and final first class century was at Maidstone in July.

It  seem that Yorkshire had discovered two players with great
ability in respect of Davidson and Hutton.Hutton went on to fulfill
his early promise but Davidson took another route in life. He went
to live in the United States and used his gift as hugely gifted
badminton player..He joined up with Hugh Forgie to tour
America and abroad with their comedy badminton show. He
coached the U.S.A badminton and was ready for  1955 campaign.

In the early hours of Christmas Day 1954 a BOAC Stratocrusier
on flight from London and ultimately bound for New York manned
by a crew of 11 and carrying 25 passengers crashed in heavy rain
and burst into flames while attempting to land at Prestwick
Airport.. Davidson was one of the 24 passengers who died in
the crash.

Another Headingley Ghosts in Mick Pope excellent book.
