YORKSHIRE V SOMERSET MATCH AT HEADINGLEY

By Brian Sanderson,

First day at Headingley I showed some off some of my cricket memorabilia.I took along a scrap book of  Bill Andrews, who played cricket for Somerset in the 1930,s also he played cricket during the Second World War around Blackpool.

Yorkshire won the toss and put in Somerset into bat on a damp green wicket. That was a start of a golden session  for Yorkshire bowlers  who reduced Somerset to 85 for 8 by lunch. During lunchtime while I was standing next to my memorabilia  came up to be to sat that Bill Andrews coached him at school which made my season as Bill is one of favorite cricketers. He sat down to read the scrapbook and found it very interesting as it brought memoirs to him of his younger days that is way scrapbooks are so interesting.

Mean while back at the cricket Yorkshire bowled out Somerset for 110 with Jack Brooks getting his best bowling figures . These were 5 for 35. Yorkshire put on a opening stand of 46 by tea time with the help of some dropped catches By the end of the day Yorkshire were 138 for 3.

At the end of the days play, I went over to the nets area to see a play called "The Last Match " about the death of Hedley Verity and the Sussex Yorkshire match at Hove in 1939. Also there was Geoffrey Boycott who at the end of the play answered some questions about the state of play at Yorkshire at he moment. He spoke a lot of truth.

Today the weather forecast said rain in the afternoon .Ballance was first to go after scoring 91  and by  lunchtime the score was 236 for 4. Talk in the Long Room was to get the most batting points as possible ,with 300 being the target. This was achieved when Bresnan  took Yorkshire to 300 for 6 in the 107 th over. By tea time Yorkshire were 362 for 7  with Bairstow 76 not out.

After tea Bairstow  was bowled for 91 which the same score as Ballance. Yorkshire total was 391 so being 281 in the lead. The rain never arrived and the weather forecasters were wrong again. By the end of the day Somerset were 44 for 2 with Cooper and Hildreth batting.

Forecast is cloudy tomorrow but who knows just look out of the window tomorrow morning. Hopefully Yorkshire can achieve a victory so I can do some gardening on Friday.
