Yesterday was a sad day for Yorkshire cricket with the death of Brian Close. I visited him at his home at Baildon on 21 January 2014 with Norman Hazell and Brian Workman. We spent a hour and half with him talking about his cricketing career. The visit is recorded in this years Wombwell Twelfth Man magazine.I thought I would try and record his career by some photograph.
A young 18 year old doing the double in 1949 which was his first season.
Close in his younger days playing football before an injury stopped him.
Close as I will always remember him fielding at short leg.
Close showing his batting skills sweeping to leg.
A photograph in his older years and always smiled if he could have a cigarette and a glass of whisky. Thank you for the memories and all the best for his family now and in the future.
