DAY TRIP TO SCARBOROUGH AND MISSING A FRIEND

 By Brian Sanderson,

Yesterday was a chance to see Yorkshire Seconds for the last time in 2015 at Scarborough with the weather fine.Yorkshire were batting against Lancashire in a three day friendly however the first day was rained off.The opening pair were Callis and Hussain who I saw at Elscar on Sunday. The bowling they were facing  today was a lot better than Sunday and included Mahmood who had been playing for England under 19. Hussain was first to go caught off Mahmood by Livingstone for 16.

This brought in Harry Brook who has just started to play for the Seconds however he was out for 16 again by the same partnership of Mahmood and Livingstone.During this period of time Lancashire missed a few catching chances and Livingstone was hit in the head from a dropped catch. After treatment he was OK.

At lunch time Yorkshire reached  129 for 2 with Callis and Gibson batting. During lunch time I had more time to look at the broken window in the home dressing room, see above photograph. This was caused by a ball during the week end.Must have been a good hit,

After lunch Gibson was soon to go for 55 ,lbw to leg spinner Parkinson. A interesting bowler who spins the ball but his figure during this match were not great. They were 23-5-92-3 so a bowler to watch out for in the future.

The rest of the day was dominated by Matthew Waite who came in number 5 which I thought was a bit high however today was his day. He took the Lancashire bowling apart during the afternoon session and scored a hundred just before tea. After tea he went on to score  143 with 12 fours and seven sixes. One of he hits landed on the top balcony of the pavilion another into nearby square. A great innings  which helped Yorkshire get to a total of 352 for 9 against a more experienced Lancashire side.

I would just like to dedicate this match to Ron Stansfield  who died last night. He was a friend for over 45 years and we have spent many  great days together watching sport and having a pint together. Two of my favorite things in life. Thank you Ron for being there and we will all miss your friendly smile. Another P.CW gone to great  match in the sky.
