NEW AND OLD PAVILIONS

By Brian Sanderson,

On a beautiful Saturday we set out on a another trips round the grounds of North Yorkshire. We started off at  Thorpe Arch and Boston Spa or as they are known TABS. It is an old club situated in Boston Spa  but is struggling to put out three teams. Today they were playing Acomb who we saw last week at home against Driffield. The home side wicket keeper must have been about 13 years old.

Their pavilion has been built a number of years but inside is a photograph of a team with Wilfred Rhodes and a number of Yorkshire players. who must have played a benefit match on this ground. Moving on to a new pavilion at Walton.
The pavilion photograpgh is at the start off the blog. Above is a photograph of the local church from the ground and I think it is estate  picture showing the ground at it,s best. The match was Wighill Park against Whinxley. Wighill have taken over Walton Seconds fixtures as both sides were struggling to put out sides so they decided to try out partnreship. The talk today was that Wighill will stop playing but the ground used for junior matches next year.

Moving on to Tadcaster Magnet ground were they were playing Ripon in the York and District league.Next to the ground was a football pitch which was been used and the football kept coming on the pitch.
This pavilion has seen better days and the team used to be helped by the brewery but that has stopped. There was heavy rain last night and the wicket that was covered was unplayable so a new wicket was used and Tadcaster were bowled out for under 100.

Moving on to a new pavilion at Saxton who were playing Old  leodiensians A in 4 th division of the Wetherby League.
This pavilion is one of the best I  have seen going round the grounds. The team is at the bottom of the league and won just one match all season but it must be a pleasure to play on this new ground. In the same division today Wetherby A were unable to field a team so conceded their match. This is an increasing problem for clubs to play two teams.

Moving on to Church Fenton who were playing Scholes who are top of he league.
A new pavilion is being built so the teams changed in a tent.Looking at the league website it has the result in which Scholes scored 164 and bowled the home side out for 139.

Tomorrow Great Preston play Barwick in the Fred Fleetwood Cup at Saxton. Lets us hope the rain allows the match to finish .
