National Cup Competitions
posted by John Winn
Despite some heavy showers in parts last Sunday the quarter and semi final ties in the national club competitions were all completed. The surprise of the day in the National KO was the dismissal of 2012 winners, York who were given the heave-ho by Chorley. On a damp wicket York were bowled out for 107 which Chorley surpassed in 26 overs for the loss of only three wickets. Chorley will now face Sandiacre Town at their Windsor Park ground on Sunday 31st August. The other semi final will be between Sunbury and Brentwood on the same date. Games start at 12 noon.
The final of the village cup will be between Yorkshire's Woodhouse Grange and Great and Little Tew from Oxfordshire who play in the Home Counties League Div 2 (West). They will meet at Lord's on September 7th. Woodhouse were easy winners over Milford Hall to reach their sixth HQ final while the Tews had a nine wicket win at Dinton and the final will mark their first appearance at Lord's.
The ICC Europe Under 15 Div 1 competition enters its last day at Rugby School today (Friday) with two matches to be played. Yesterday's results are not available on the website and it is possible that that the games were affected by rain. Earlier in the week there were wins for Guernsey (2), Ireland (2) and one each for Netherlands and Scotland. Today's games are between Scotland and Ireland and Jersey and Guernsey.
Finally since yesterday's posting the ecb website has confirmed that in the game I saw at Stamford School on Tuesday Warwickshire U15 beat Leicestershire and Rutland by 8 wickets. The competition has now reached 'National Stage A' with matches due to be played on August 13th.
The ties are Hampshire v Middlesex, Surrey v Somerset, Warwickshire v Derbyshire and Yorkshire v Buckinghamshire. Starts are 10;45 but only the venue for the Surrey v Somerset is available and that will be at the City of London Freeman's School, Ashstead.
