ANOTHER EARLY FINISH BUT THIS TIME BETTER NEWS

By Brian Sanderson,

On a sunny morning it was a pleasure to walk up to watch Yorkshire play Worcestershire in a fifty over match. The first surprise was that the inclusion of Matthew Fisher who was in the England under 19 squad and Steve Pattinson twelve man.Matthew is still only 16 years old and is a great prospect.

Worcestershire won the toss and decided to bat which was a surprise. The opening bowlers of Bresnan and Brooks soon brought the opposition to 48 for 4.Matthew then had Mitchell, then the top scorer with 33 ,l.b.w.Soon they were 102 for 9 with Rashid bowling well who finished with 3 for 21 in his ten overs. The top scorer was Joe Leach ,who used to play for Leeds and Bradford University in 2008, with  43 not out.

Their innings finished at 1.10 with only 44 overs bowled. The rules for lunch is if the first innings finishs before 1.30 then the bowling side has to bat till 2.00.which seems stupid as Yorkshire batsmen would have to start again after the break. However Lees decided to take a early lunch been caught with a good catch by Fell.
There was a good crowd watching the match but it was a pity Worcestershire could not reach a better total. So their batting well have to improve if they move into the first division next year.Yorkshire were never under pressure  and they reached the total in 31 overs.

During the afternoon the scoreboard shown it was  Keith Gillhouley 80 th birthday tomorrow. He played for
Yorkshire and Nottingham from 1961 to  1966. This was the last time Yorkshire play at Headingley till 23 September  when they play Somerset. No comment needed.
