ANOTHER RAINY DAY IN YORK

By Brian Sanderson,

I read the Leicestershire scorers report on the first day and he compared York with the Nottingham Sports Ground which is one of the worst grounds  for Second Team cricket. However York is much better with numerous trees and a beautiful pavilion at Clifton Alliance ground next to the York ground.

As a pcw you have to be a weather forecaster to work out wether it was worth while to go out to watch cricket. The forecast for today was  orginally rain all day but I woke up to sunshine. So I set off to see the second day at York.

Leicestershire were 131 for 4 at the start of the morning. The first wicket of Raine was a run out when Wainman, the bowler, diverted the ball on to the wicket. Raine was heard to swear on the ground and in the chageing room.By 11.50 when the rain came they were 163 for 8 with Wainman taking 3 wickets.
During the morning Moin Ashraf was seen doing some exercises using the seats. There was no play until 3.05 when the rain had stopped and the thunder moved to another part of York.Wainman took another wicket before Sidebottom had to come back to claim the last wicket with a full toss.Leicster finished on 201 and  with a 2 run lead.
This is a photograph of James Wainman going back to his bowling mark. Yorkshire were left with 51 overs to bat today so the days play will not finish until about 7.45 .I left at teatime ie 5.10 with Yorkshire 38 for 2 with both openers out . There were two catches dropped during this time so Yorkshire postion could have been much worse.

During the Yorkshire bowling Coad pulled up with a torn muscle so he will be out for the season. tomorrow to Headingley to watch the first team.
