TODMORDEN

By Brian Sanderson,

On Monday morning I went to see cricket at Todmorden were Lancashire Seconds were playing Yorkshire Seconds in a three day match.I decided to stay in the town as my friend Andrew had come up also to see the match. The ground is situated next to a main road but it has great views of the Pennines hills. It is one of my favourite grounds. In the Red Brick cafe you can eat one of the best cuisines in Lancashire . Also it gives you and chance  to meet the Lancashire P.C.W and talk of  cricket matches past and future. The only down side was that there were no scorecards. So it was like watching a play with no programme.

Lancashire won the toss and decided to bat. They were soon progressing well against a young Yorkshire attack. The main  batsman to make hay was Calum Turner who finished on 103  in just short of four hours. Also Robert Jones scored 81.The innings finished with  Arron Lilley hitting three big sixes in a quick fire 27 to bring the total to 355 for 7.

As soon as Yorkshire batted they were in trouble against the Lancashire bowling. There were only three batsmen in double figures Waite, Thompson and Barnes.

The main wicket takers were Stephen Parry,England one day test player, and Saqib Mahmood, England under 19 fast bowler. Yorkshire struggled to 124.Lancashire came in full of confidence to bring up a quick 148 for 3 in 29 overs. This left Yorkshire 380 to get in a day or last out.

Again they were soon 4 for 18 in eight overs. They did however  manage to last 97.2 overs scoring 203. Again Steven Parry took 5 for 33 and was the outstanding player of the match.Somewhere Yorkshire have to find some batsmen.

This afternoon I went up to Weetwood to watch the Yorkshire Academy play Scotland Development X1. in one day match.it was the ending of the Scottish innings so it gave me a chance to see some of the young Yorkshire batsmen.

Yorkshire were soon 77 for 5 but Robert Brown and Johathan Reed put on a stand of over a hundred before Reed was caught out for 31.  he was the wicket keeper at Todmorden.Tea time called so I had to leave the match at this stage.

Day off tomorrow from cricket after six days of work watching  and looking at the weather forecast.
