MRS STEELS CHAMPION TEAS

By Brian Sanderson,

The weather forecast earlier in the week said rain for Saturday. However as myself and Ron Deaton set off on our Saturday afternoon trip is was just cloudy. We have been traveling round Yorkshire grounds for seven years together.

We met at York cricket ground were they were playing Driffield.  It was just a short visit as we were going to Thixendale were we meet the York Vale Cricket League Chairman. The village is located in the Yorkshire Wolds about 20 miles east of York

In 2015 the club was suspended from the league as they were struggling to put out a side and made appeal for players. This year they have started again and were playing Yapham. The home side lost the toss and bowled.

The standard of the cricket was not the best but twenty two players were enjoying themselves  in beautiful surroundings.Let us hope the club can keep going.

Moving on to Melbourne  which is situated approximately 8 miles west of Market Weighton and 4.5 miles south-west of Pocklington. They were playing Burns who play near Selby. One of the reason we visited the club was to sample Ruth Steels York Vale Champion teas which she has won two years running. She also cuts the grass, scorers and is the club representative.

The tea of course great but we had to start back to York. When we arrived York they  had beaten Driffield and next door Clifton Alliance second team was losing to Londsborough Park.
