SUNDAY BLUE CLOTHING DAY
By Brian Sanderson,
This afternoon I walked up to the Stadium called Headingley which made a change from driving. The match was a 40 over game between Yorkshire and Gloucestershire sponsored by by pension supplier Yorkshire Bank.
On paper Yorkshire had a weak bowling attack but I had not seen Glos play this year.
Yorkshire batted first with a blue clothing and for a surprise Glos had the same colour. The Glos side is a mixture of players from round the world.
Michael Klinger from Australia.
Hamish Marshall from New Zealand.
Gareth Roderick from South Africa,
Alex Gidman from Buckinghamshire.
Benny Howell from France
Graeme Mc Carter from Northern Ireland
Yorkshire main riun scorer was Phil Jaques with 70 but should have gone on to a hundred.Ballance,Lyth and Rashid put together a score of 243 for 5 which everybody thought was about 20 or 40 short of the total required to win.
Yorkshire bowling was mainly Second team players ie Wardlaw, Ashraf, Coad and Rhodes. It was Ben Coad first 40 over match for Yorkshire and bowled well .He took the wicket of Marshall and bowled his eight overs for 42.The Glos captain Klinger ,as shown by my photograph, scored 96 to help them win the match.Their final score was 244 for 4 and 11 ballsto spare.
There was a good crowd with a number of youngers who played quick cricket in the interval. You would expect Yorkshire to do better but not in this case. The reasonS I went was it was easy to get to and I had Archive business to discuss.Next 40 over match at Headingley I may miss.
