SLOW DAY AT SCARBOROUGH
By Brian Sanderson,
I went to John Winn favorite ground this morning with my sister who had not been to Scarborough for a number of years. The photograph above is the enterence to the Scarborough ground some years to go.
The weather was cloudy when we arrived to the ground and the toss did not take place until 11.30. Andrew Gale was dressed in his Yorkshire blazer and toss a 150 year old coin. He won the toss and put Nottingham in to bat.The sea fret stopped play until 1.10 and we decided to go to The Bowl Hall which is about 100 yards from the ground. We were able to get warm and get dry from the drizzle. There were numerous Yorkshire supporters had the same idea which caused the kitchen staff to be very busy.
In the first over Sidebottom had Hales caught behind and the spectators expected more quickly. This did not happen due Ed Cowan,Australian and Michael Lumb ,ex Yorkshire and Hampshire. In a two and half first session only 35 overs were bowled and no more wickets fell.
After the sun came out and it was a lot more pleasent to watch the cricket. We were joined by John Winn after his Darlington friend had left to catch his train. From our view we were able to see the catch by Ballance to get rid of Cowan for 47. Soon later we left the the match to have some good fish and chips.Beenwhile Lumb went on to score 116 not out.Nottingham score was 177 for 2 in 71 overs which was slow scoring and also slow over rate.
Hoping to-morrow is better cricket and warmer weather.
