sun cream at weetwood
posted by John Winn
Sunshine at Weetwood attracted a goodly number of pcws to see Leeds/Bradford take on Exeter University in a fifty over game today. Only two weeks ago at the same venue I watched from the car sheltering from a bitterly cold wind but today was the sort of day that the game was made for and factor 30 was duly applied.
A fifty partnership between Roebuck and Webb put things right for the homesters after the loss of two early wickets but at 133 for 3 Roebuck was stumped off a wide. When Webb was out the innings rather declined and the panel's predictions of a 250 total looked a little silly when Vanders was last out at 217.
Exeter made a slow start from which they never really recovered and wickets fell at regular intervals. These were evenly shared, Rouse, Foster, MacQueen and Ross two each with 3 for Foster and a run out. Exeter had lost to Durham University at The Racecourse yesterday and faced a long journey home tonight with their hopes in the competition dashed. Leeds/Bradford's winning margin today was 89 runs and are well placed with 13 points from 5 games.
A day off for me tomorrow but looking forward to Scarborough on Wednesday. At tea today it looked as though Notts, who are the visitors to North Marine Road, might travel from the south coast to the east coast on the back of a victory over Sussex but an unbroken partnership between Brown and Jordan kept the Hove outfit's unbroken record intact and they top the table, 8 points clear of Yorkshire. Notts are 24 points behind Yorkshire but have a game in hand. The stage is set and although there might be rather less sunshine than today I know of several white rose supporters who will travel up the A64 or via Trans Pennine tomorrow to be in good time for Tuesday's 11:00 start. I'll be on the 9:40 and whatever the weather there will be an extra spring in my step as I walk the mile from Scarborough station to the ground: still my favourite venue for watching first class cricket. Bring it on.
