SUN SIGHTED AT WEETWOOD

By Brian Sanderson,

Today was a easy trip to Weetwood  where Leeds and Bradford University were playing a fifty over match against Cardiff University. This was the final of last season played at Lords which Leeds won.

I heard that that the Pudsey match  on Saturday was rained off with York 90 for 2. Also New Rover lost easily to St. Chads which was the result of the Sunday match.

We were able to sit in front of the pavilion which protected us from the cold breeze. Leeds batted first with Charlie Roebuck, the ex Yorkshire Second player, soon out. This left Nicholas Richard Trail Gubbins batting with Christian Arthur Linghorn Davis  against some poor bowling.Gubbins ,a Middlesex second team player, went on to score a hundred which included two sixes off  one legitimate ball as one ball was a no-ball.The sun came out and it was very nice to be warm again after the two poor days.

There was a sign outside the pavilion advertising bacon butties for £2 which attracted David Thorpe however when, he got to the counter they had no bread so he had to come away with some biscuits.Quite a let down.

Leeds went on to score 292 in the fifty overs which took three hours but this caused the kitchen staff to delay tea as they were not ready in time as they expected the innings to last longer.

At tea time I tried to obtain a print out of the Leeds innings but were unable to obtain one. You can not  find out the breakdown of the innings on the web which is a poor show. We understand the Leeds and Bradford website has not been updated from last season as the University have not paid their bills. Very poor and cricket  followers are again left in the dark about the match.

Cardiff were 70 for 1 when I left at  5.30 and the sun had vanished.Alex Lilley, ex Yorkshire Seconds, took the wicket.I will have to wait for tomorrow when there is the start of a two day match against Cardiff again at Weetwood.Forecast is good. Let us hope the Cardiff bowling has improved.
