COME ON YOU YELLOWS

By Brian Sanderson,

While John was putting on the blog prospects for the coming cricket season,I had another trip to Weetwood . this was my  third  visit  in five days.To-day Leeds and Bradford University were playing Southampton University in a fifty over match.Southampton had traveled up on Thursday which took four hours just to play this match. Then they were going back to-night.Southampton are not in the two day matches and only play the one day competition.

When I arrived Ian, from Preston ,had parked his car and was looking at his schedule for the next few days.
Also joining us was again David Thorpe but there was no advertising for bacon butties to-day.Next arrived was Bob Procter and Nigel Pullan. So we had a full quorum.

Southampton batted first and wanted to move the scoring quickly .Colour on the players  clothing is always interesting and to-day Southampton were in red. They all seem like away shitrs for football sides. There opening brought the score to 114 for 6 in the twenty-fifth over. Then the scoring  stopped against the Leeds spinners. In the fifty over they reached  186 for 9.Whilst the Leeds players were fielding we  heard the shout "Come on the Yellows " which is a new shout for me,Another football shout.

After tea Roebuck was out early again  giving catching practise to first slip. The next batsman picked out  the only fielder on the leg-side boundary. Then Gubbins and Vanderspar  went on to score fifties. When I left they required 50 runs with only two wickets down and overs to spare. Gubbins looks in good batting form.

A long ride back for Southampton.

To-morrow I will be starting my trips round new grounds around Keighley and I am looking forward to it with prospects of sunny weather.
