HEAT WAVE AT WEETWOOD
By Brian Sanderson,
Another visit to Weetwood to see the first day of the Leeds and Bradford University against Cardiff in a two day match.John Winn joined the crowd after his trip to Durham yesterday. He was meet by the board advertising bacon butties as mention in yesterday blog.Nobody today tried to purchase any.
Leeds batted first again Roebuck was soon out but his batting partner Gubbins, who scored a century yesterday, carried on his good batting form. From the pavilion end Powell, who is a medium swing bowler, took four wickets with two in two balls. This left Leeds 73 for 4 at lunch.
After lunch Gubbin and Laws put together a unbeaten partnership till tea of 176.
This is a photograph of them coming off at tea. It was so warm during the afternoon they were watering the hockey pitches. First sight of a butterfly this season.
After tea Laws was soon out for 88 and quickly after Gubbin was out for 93. The Law and Gubbin partnership was 178.At this stage the innings seemed to stall when I expected Leeds to press on.Leaving at 5.30 the score was 290 for 6 with ten overs of the day to go.
Photograph of Cardiff warming up at lunch-time.I used to just go straight on the field and start playing.
Tomorrow to Nottingham to see Yorkshire Seconds.
