Bits and Pieces

posted by John Winn

The Village Cup Final was played at Lord's yesterday and in an exciting finish Cumbria club Cleator won by one wicket. Their opponents Rockhampton from Gloucestershire batted first and made 192 for 7 off their 40 overs. From 178 for 9 Cleator's last pair got them over the line to win by one wicket.

The National Club KO final will be played at the Riverside, Chester le Street this Sunday with an 11:00 start. The finalists are West Indian Cavaliers from Nottingham who beat South Northumberland in the semi finals and Ealing CC  who overcame Norfolk outfit Swardeston to reach the final. Ealing play in the Middlesex Premier league and have finished second to Hampstead this season. The Cavaliers are in the Notts Premier and lie second to Cuckney with one game to play.

The four day Minor Counties Championship Final got underway at Wisbech yesterday. Cheshire won the toss and chose to bat and hit up an impressive 372 for 9 off 90 overs. Top scorer was Rick Moore with 175 not out. Cheshire are skippered by Danny Woods who on Saturday took 9 for 48 for York against Appleby Frodingham. Cambridgeshire's reply had reached 36 for 1 at stumps with Wood the successful bowler.

Finally and following up yesterday's posting, Clowne Town in their last match of the season on Sunday
finished on the losing end of a draw and thus finished runners up to Morton Colliery in Div 4 North of the Derbyshire League. Cuckney IV got the better of the draw against Milton with Milton III and as expected Cuckney II lost to Thoresby and with one match left cannot avoid relegation.
