ANOTHER DAY AT THE SEASIDE

By Brian Sanderson,

I always look forward to going to watch Minor Cricket at Cleethorpes and to-day was the day.The forecast was sunny and hats were vital equipment for the day. After a easy run along the motorways from Leeds I arrived in enough time to have a cup of coffee and two biscuits. The first person I met was Michael Lathem who runs the cricket side of  Cumberland County Cricket Club. The last time we talked was at the Bankfoot v Bradford and Bingley cup-match see The match that never was on the blog.

I like to watch the match from behind the bowlers arm on the grass mound and in the shade. This time I was lucky to get all three wishes.Cumberland won the toss and decided to bat eventhough Michael said Cumberland were better bowling side than batting.By lunch they were 98 for 7.Not a good morning for Cumberland.Another member of the Cumberland committee was Gilbert who is always pleasent to talk to.
Another person watching the match was Grenville Firth who wrote the book" Yorkshire Cricketing Legends Yorkshire -born Test Cricketers ".

After lunch Cumberland lost another two quick wickets and was left to the last two batsmen These were Parkinson, the photogralh above, and Scott Richardson from Woodlands club who play in the Bradford League. They managed to take the score up to 239 with Parkinson scoring 79 not out.During the morning I was thinking of calling the blog civilised cricket. However Lincolnshire bowlers started to talk to the batsmen so causing the Umpires to step in to stop it.There is no need for this type of cricket.

After tea Birch, the Lincolnshire opening batsman, started to hit the bowling all round the field. He finished on 99 not out and Lincolnshire 149 for 2. There is two days to go but Cumberland bowlers will have to take early wickets to-morrow.
