Humble Pie
Posted by John Winn
In yesterday's posting I said that most teams had now reached the halfway point in the championship. In fact only four teams have completed half their matches, Durham Yorkshire, Glamorgan and Essex, and under no circumstances can four out of eighteen be called 'most'. Apologies.
If one looks merely at the points column then Yorkshire appear to have some breathing space, but Hampshire who are bottom have two games in hand, and Worcestershire one. Even a week ago Worcestershire appear to have reserved one of the relegation places, but at New Road yesterday they emerged from the embarrassment of the Adrian Shankar episode to beat the rather mercurial Notts, which has certainly given the cat a sniff of the pigeons.
