Yorkshire Seconds at Scarborough

By Brian Sanderson

With lockdown it has given me a chance to look at some of the old scorecards ,I have collected over the last few years. Also to write about some the players are nearly forgotten. In Tony's posting
in April, 'Gone but not forgotten'  he mentioned Eddie Legard ,the Yorkshire second team wicketkeeper who has died in January

The scorecard above is a Yorkshire Second team match at Scarborough on the 21 and 22 August 1957 against Staffordshire.Above is a photograph of the 1958 team which includes Legard and
a number of players who played in 1957.

Staffordshire batted first and were bowled in 61.4 overs for 126. Mel Ryan ,above, took 6 wickets for 68. He was a right arm fast bowler who did not gain a regular place in the first team until 1960. He played 150 matches taking 413 wickets. He died on the 16 November 2015.
