Cricket Talk.
Posted by Brian Sanderson,
I had agreed to see Bob Procter at Weetwood. Yorkshire Academy were playing York. However it was raining but we were going to Adel to speak to Reg Parker. In the Horace Fisher possession were pictures of Holbeck in the 1950,s. Reg played in the team until it finished in 1962.
Bob used to watch Holbeck in the 1950.s and Reg brought his two scrapbooks about this period. He named the players in two pictures of Holbeck. He told us numerous stories of the matches.
We moved on to Farsley against Bradford and Bingley. Farsley were bowling and Bradford and Bingley reached one hundred and sixty-nine in the fifty overs. After tea McCarthy bowled well from the top end. Farsley had scored forty-six for three and I found out at home they lost the match.
We moved finally on to Weetwood to see the end of the Yorkshire match.Yorkshire were batting after York had reached one hundred and ninty-seven for eight.Hargreaves and Leaning were batting and put on a partnership of ninety to bring the total of one hundred andfifty-two for four wickets. Woods bowled well to produce figures of seven for fifty-five.Yorkshire reached one hundred and seventy-two for nine.
The Academy tried hard but were up against a experenced team.
