Shooting Star

Looking through the other four Wisden Cricketers of Year
 in 1938 , came across the name of Hugh Tryon Barlett

  who was born in India on the 7 October 1914 in India
  He went to Dulwich College where he scored two double
 centuries. He appears for a short time for Surrey and got a
 blue for Cambridge
 .
However he settled down as amateur  for Sussex. He was
 awarded his cap when he scored94 at Headingley against
Yorkshire . On the 21 May he hit
Verity for 7 sixes in two overs and was eventually
 caught by Leyland on the boundary edge

 In Wisden it stated that he had been picked to go on the
 M.C.C tour to South Africa .However he did not play
 in any test matches but played in 10 averaging 51.14
. During the Second World War he
won t.he D.F.C medal
 .After the War he was captain of Sussex from 1947
 to 1949 but then resigned after a disagreement
  with the County club. He played for
 152 matches finishing up with a career average of 31.95.
. He was appointed Sussex President in 1976.
  He  died watching Sussex on the 26 June 1988
.Another promising youngcricketer not reaching
 test match status. ,he was not the only cricketer
  this happen to.
