National Club Championship
posted by John Winn
Yesterday saw matches played in the National Club Championship. In Group 1 which covers the North East and North Yorkshire Richmondshire progressed at the expense of Chester le Street while York were easy winners over Stamford Bridge. York will host Richmondshire in the Group Final on Sunday 24th June. In Group Two it was very much Town against Country as Sessay travelled to Doncaster. The hosts came out winners by three wickets with just three balls to spare. Doncaster will be away to Woodhouse Grange in their group final, also on June 24th. Grange squeezed home yesterday beating Sheffield Collegiate by two wickets with four balls left.
Some familiar names made progress from other groups including last year's beaten finalists Ormskirk, Ockbrook and Borrowash from Derbyshire and Swardesh from Norfolk. The surprise of the round came with the defeat of last year's winners Wanstead and Snaresbrook by Essex rivals Chingford. All is quiet on the Wanstead Twitter feed this morning. Others moving forward to group finals in the south are Blackheath and Roffey (Sussex). Two matches remain to be played at this stage. In the North West Heywood v Delph and in Bucks and Oxon High Wycombe v Horspath. Both these games to be played this Sunday, 1:00 starts.
