6th Pennine Cricket History Conference

Posted by Brian Sanderson

On the 20 March I arrived at Huudersfield with rain falling. It started on time with Andrew Collomosse talking about the Press in sport and how it had changed. It was a excellent speech and left in the morning to watch a football match in the afternoon.
The next speaker was Mick Pope talking about Alonzo Drake his boyhood hero.He had a audio tape taken twenty years ago from a person who knew him and excellent photographs of his life. All together was a excellent speech.
Then Dave Walker talked about friendly cricket.Brought back memoirs about when I was the Secretary of Yorkshire Bank Cricket team when it was a friendly team in the 60,s.
To finish the morning was some poems on cricket.
An excellent morning.
After lunch in the Pub in started at 2P.M with some more poetry.First time I heard poetry about cricket excellent.
Then came Alan Stuttard talking about his cricket career in Lancashire Leagues .Very funny again.
Next Brian Heywood shown a film of a Lancashire league match in the 1940,s.Another excellent topic.
Finally Tony Hutton shown his slides of cricket grounds he visited last summer.Made you want the cricket season to start as soon as possible.
It was a excellent day which is a vital date in my diary.
